Performance Design switches the attention from the final outcome to the making genesis. From performance art, through performance Architecture and Interaction design, every static artefact is the representation of a dynamic and emotional series of actions.
Open Source environments and new fabrication technologies are pushing the idea of ‘Personal Factories’ filling the gap, opened by the Industrial Revolution, between handcrafting and mass production.
While learning to see an object not just as a static and physical element, but as the sum of function, time and behaviors, the students built a production process/making machine able to embed multiple meanings and produce a concrete outcome. The study of traditional habits and behaviors, belonging to the local environment or to the students’ personal roots, have been the main inspiration for each proposal. Each machine represents a conceptual framework, merging the effective production of something with deeper social implications and a strong narrative.
